GlossaryWhat is Earnings report?
An earnings report is a company's report card, published four times a year.
The simple explanation
Public companies share how much they sold, how much they earned and what they expect next. These reports come out every quarter and are among the biggest moments for a stock, because prices can move sharply when results surprise investors.
An example
A company reports sales of 10 billion dollars when analysts expected 9.5 billion. The stock may jump.
Why it matters
Many large daily stock moves happen right after an earnings report.
