What is Limit order?

A limit order says buy or sell only if the price reaches the number I choose.

The simple explanation

You set the highest price you will pay or the lowest price you will accept. The trade only happens at that price or better, so it gives control but might never get filled.

An example

You set a limit order to buy at 48 dollars. If the stock never falls to 48, nothing happens.

Why it matters

It protects you from paying more than you intended.
